9/22/2023 0 Comments Inn at meander plantation haunted![]() We should point out that the three course breakfast was really two sides dishes (one amazing muffin and some prepared fruit) and a main entrée (e.g., waffles). Luckily we got the newspaper before the other guests arrived so we had something to do as we waited before being served our main entrée. However, the coffee was on the weak side, only one Washington Post is available to share among all the guests, and our three course breakfast was drawn-out over an hour after ordering. Dinning- Their breakfast was really good better than most restaurants in quality and presentation. Other than that, they have maintained the old charm and character of the plantation. At night, we wished they had a communal area to enjoy the wine we bought at the local wineries, such as a cozy outdoor stone patio with an outdoor fireplace. Overall the houses and grounds were in good shape. Grounds and Buildings- The plantation is almost picture prefect. Our suggestion, if you’re with another couple and want to chat over some Virginia wine at night we suggest at least one couple reserve one of the larger rooms. We only wished we could have seen the other rooms since they look to be larger and more suited for lounging around. However, they do have wireless internet in the main house. As point of information, not a critique, these rooms did not have TVs or nice radios so bring reading material. Luckily we were all quiet and knew each other, but it could have been uncomfortable if we had a noisy couple as neighbors. One concern though, we could hear each other through the wall that divides the Dependency unit into two separate rooms. The best part of these rooms was the fireplace and comfortable beds. The Rooms- We stayed in Dependency 1 & 2 and found them to be nice and cozy. We had a lovely time, and believe this place has a lot of potential, but we would like to offer some suggestions and tips for future guests. My wife and I, along with another couple, stayed at the Meander Plantation back in March ‘08. She has told so many of our neighbors and friends. We are passionate about eating local seasonal foods at home and we were pleased to find Meander shares that passion. All of the ingredients were the freshest possible and most were from local farms. The Virginia dessert wine was perfectly paired. The grand marnier souffle for dessert was the most perfect we have had. For entrees, my wife had wild Marlin- just flown in. Just enough bread to hold it together and all crab. We each had a crab cake- always a good litmus test. My wife had the Golden Beet with goat cheese was exceptional- she wants to try this at Thanksgiving. I tried the yellow pepper soup-very unusual and delicious. We never knew you could eat them and will now try this one at home. First we were served a tempura Day Lilly. She seated us on the veranda, just off the garden. We were served by Cindy who was so attentive and kind, but never hovered. We sat out on the lawn for some Virginia wine. Dinner was a real surprise, in the best sense of the word. It is really the "old Virginia" that we love. The grounds are beautiful and we would love to return for a weekend. ![]() She was wide-eyed as we turned up the drive. It was recommended by friends of ours whose farm was once part of Meander. I surprised my wife with dinner at Meander to celebrate our 10 Wedding anniversary. All of the ingredients were the freshest possible and most were from. ![]() ![]()
